    A friend passed this recipe on several years ago, and it really is a terrfic cookie for gifting since it makes such a big batch. Make sure to bake your cookies until they are lightly golden, and make sure to cool them briefly on the cookie sheets before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. And do not forget the powdered sugar sprinkled on top!

Sometimes a coin or other object is baked inside of the cake (or hidden underneath) and the person who gets the slice with the coin is forecast to have a prosperous year ahead.
