    A friend passed this recipe on several years ago, and it really is a terrfic cookie for gifting since it makes such a big batch. Make sure to bake your cookies until they are lightly golden, and make sure to cool them briefly on the cookie sheets before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. And do not forget the powdered sugar sprinkled on top!

    This is a variation of a Greek cake called Vasilopita that is a New Year’s specialty.  It is loaded with the flavor of fresh oranges and brandy and this version has a little something extra-special because of a touch of Grand Marnier in the glaze. Sometimes a coin or other object is baked inside of the cake (or hidden underneath) and the person who gets the slice with the coin is forecast to have a prosperous year ahead.
