Molasses Cookies

  • Yield: 4 dozen


  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar for rolling


  • Preheat the oven 375 degrees. Cream together the butter and brown sugar. Add the egg and molasses and mix well. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cloves and cinnamon. Stir into the butter/sugar mixture. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and roll in sugar. Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheets for 10 to 12 minutes.
