Tarte Au Sucre (sugar Pie)

This is a classic French-Canadian dessert.

  • Yield: 8 servings


  • 1 cup maple sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell


  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Combine the maple sugar, brown sugar, cream, egg, flour and butter in a mixing bowl and stir to blend. Pour the mixture into the pie shell and bake until filling is set and pastry is golden brown, 40 to 50 minutes. Remove from oven and cool slightly before serving. Slice the pie into individual servings and serve warm.
