Recipe
Half Moon Fried Apple Pies
Ingredients
- 2 cups biscuit mix
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 cup apple butter or thick applesauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, shortening, or lard
- 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar (optional)
Directions
- Combine the biscuit mix and milk to make a thick biscuit dough. Divide the dough into six equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle approximately 5 inches in diameter. Spoon two tablespoons of apple butter just off center of each dough circle and fold the dough over to form a half moon shape. Pinch the edges together with fingers or fork to seal. Preheat an iron skillet over medium heat. Melt the shortening in skillet. Place two pies in the skillet at a time and fry until golden brown on both sides, turning once. Serve warm. Dust with confectioner's sugar if desired.
