Marcelle's Cornbread
Ingredients
- 2 to 3 tablespoons bacon grease or shortening
- 2 cups yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- Three-fourths teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 beaten egg
- One and one-half cups milk
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Sift the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Add the egg and milk and mix well. Melt the bacon grease or shortening in a 9-inch skillet, preferably iron, and pour in the batter. Bake until golden brown, about 25 to 30 minutes.
