Recipe
Hot Apple Cider
This super-simple cider is perfect for a last-minute gathering. Studding the apple with whole cloves enhances the cider's flavor. And, if you leave out the rum, this is perfect for the kids' holiday party!
Ingredients
- 1 apple cut into wedges
- 2 teaspoons whole cloves
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- 2 quarts apple cider
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 cup dark rum, optional
- 3 cinnamon sticks plus more for garnish
Directions
Stud the apple wedges with the cloves. Combine the studded apple with the remaining ingredients except the rum in a medium pot. Bring to a simmer over low heat. Simmer until the flavors come together, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the rum if desired. Strain out and discard the apple. Ladle into mugs and garnish each serving with a cinnamon stick.
