Cafe Brulot

  • Yield: 8 servings.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart strong black coffee
  • 1 cinnamon stick, 2 inches long
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 1 piece orange peel, 3 inches long
  • 1 piece lemon peel, 2 inches long
  • 6 lumps sugar
  • 1 cup brandy
  • One-fourth cup Cointreau
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  • Make the coffee, using two and one-half tablespoons ground coffee to each cup of water. Keep the coffee warm while mixing the remaining ingredients. In a chafing dish, combine the remaining ingredients. Heat and stir to dissolve the sugar. Carefully ignite and stir in the hot coffee. Continue stirring until the flame goes out. Serve hot.
