A Spring Weekend

Post Author: Angela Sagabaen

I had a wonderful Spring weekend, starting it off Friday night at Bachanal Wine with friends. Bachanal Wine is located along the river in the Marigny of New Orleans. They sell a variety of wines and cheeses and offer two menus: deli and tapas. We started off with toast points with black eyed pea hummus topped with julienned brussel sprouts. Next we had grilled shrimp in some sort of pita and completed our meal with braised short ribs over a fingerling potato salad. We finished off our meal with some cheese and crostinis. And we ate under a canopy of little trees and Christmas lights, with a carpet of dead leaves at our feet, surrounded by a hipster crowd and entertained by a local band. I was so immersed in my joyous night, that I failed to remember to take photographs :(. But, I did want to tell you about the great night and give Chef Joaquin props for such an enjoyable meal.

On Saturday, locals started St. Patricks day celebrations in the Garden District. You could see the masses of people adorned in green along Magazine street as they followed floats and danced to music, with libations in one hand and trying to catch green beads and cabbages with the other. I did manage to take a photo as a residual from the events, which is to come later. The festivities continue on St. Patty’s day in the Irish Channel, where many gather at Parasol’s bar to complete the celebration.

And finally, on Sunday, I was treated to a late lunch at Stanley’s in the French Quarter, where I feasted on a mixed green salad tossed in a rasberry vinaigrette and a burger. The restaurant is in a great location for people watching, if you’re not too busy chowin’ down. Afterwards, we strolled down Bourbon Street on the way back to the car and passed through the Roosevelt hotel. I took just a few photos of the hotel for you to see.

The weather was beautiful all weekend - not too hot, cold, or humid. Perfect, Spring-like weather which has carried over to my Monday morning. I can’t wait for more days like this!
