Edible Tulips

Edible Tulips

Did you know that tulips are edible?!  I had no idea until I struck up a conversation with a tulip farmer at my local farmer’s market.  He says they are great when added to fresh salads or make a lovely garnish on a dessert.  I haven’t tried them yet, but certainly will soon!  And if you decide to try them yourself too, be sure to get tulips that are pesticide-free!

Not only are they edible, they are yummy. The whole plant is very tasty, from the bulb up! They taste like fresh green peas! I’ve eaten thousands! All kinds are edible.

So, are tulip stems edible? I just trimmed about 80 tulip stems and chopped them into the compost. The stems seem to have a lot of sugar in them (my fingers got quite sticky). Should I cook the stems like green beans?
