Rolling Pin Substitute

 Wine Bottle Rolling Pin

If you are ever in a pinch and don’t have a rolling pin, try using an empty wine bottle instead!  It works perfectly!   I picked this tip up from Emeril at a demo a couple of years ago.  One of his assistant’s forgot to pack a rolling pin along.  While we all scrambled around to find a rolling pin, he suggested using a wine bottle and saved the day (and his pastry)!

Add ice cold water to wine bottle and seal.

What a great idea! My parents had to spend 3 months in Australia in 1962. That included Thanksgiving. My mom had no rolling pin to make pies so she used a beer bottle. I forgot about that! A tall wine bottle would be much better. As to Virginia’s suggestion of “ice water,” that may work in winter but on a muggy day in summer, a cold glass bottle will pick up the humidity and be wet. Not good when rolling dough!
