Rosemaryade

Rosemaryade

Last night I went out for a burger at a restaurant that prides itself in being something of a modern soda shop. They offer shakes, floats and sodas in a wide-array of flavors and combinations, most of which are pretty uncommon.

Upon previous visits, I’ve been more adventurous in my selections and tried the celery soda and strawberry ice cream float, the apple pie shake and the chocolate egg cream—all very delicious. But on this visit, I decided to try something new and not too fancy—the “rosemaryade.”

The drink, which could quite easily be made at home, was simply a rosemary-infused glass of lemonade. It was really refreshing and not too sweet because of the savory flavor of the rosemary. Alone, this drink would be perfect for a picnic; but spiked with some vodka or gin and garnished with some citrus slices, this beverage would make a perfect punch.

If I had to guess how to make this at home, I would start by boiling about a quart of water, turn off the heat, drop about 4 large sprigs of fresh rosemary into the pot and let it sit out until it cools to room temperature. Then remove the rosemary sprigs and add fresh-squeezed lemon juice and sugar to taste. Place in the fridge until it is ice-cold and serve!
