Post Author: Lorin GaudinToday is National Baklava Day. Baklava, the purported ancestor of streudel was brought to Hungary by Turkish invaders in the 16th Century.
Thiry or more sheets of phyllo dough is brushed with lots of butter, layered with finely chopped nuts (pistachios, walnuts, and/or almonds)and baked. Once cooked, the pastry is doused with a honey , rose-water and lemon juice syrup, spiced with cinnamon and clove and left to soak.
